The route begins at the Remolino Oasis, near a dam of an old disused hydroelectric plant. The trail follows CAI path 401 along the right orographic bank of the Calore Lucano River. After just over 1 km with a gentle elevation gain, you reach “Petratetta”, a natural bridge formed by huge rocks fallen from the cliff walls. Continuing along the right bank, the path becomes CAI 401a and proceeds for about 3 km (with around 200 m elevation gain). This section crosses the fourth gorge of the river, characterized by dramatic vertical cliffs and “giant’s kettles” (circular potholes carved by water in the rock). The trail, immersed in Mediterranean scrub and beech forests, leads to the impressive and well-preserved medieval humpback bridge of Magliano Nuovo. From the bridge, the route climbs (350 m elevation gain over 2.45 km) to the junction between paths 401A and 401. A short detour leads to the panoramic viewpoint of Postiglione, an ancient horse-changing station with a spectacular terrace overlooking the valley and the ridges of inland Cilento. The trail then follows path 401 downhill along the left bank of the river, crossing wooded areas and passing old farmhouses. After about 3.5 km, you return to the Petratetta bridge; crossing it again brings you back to the right bank and the short initial stretch leading to the starting point at Remolino.
