From July to October, when the Calore River dries up, in the Gole del Cervati in Piaggine – Salerno, its ancient riverbed becomes a fascinating natural trail, accessible on foot among rocks and canyon walls sculpted by water over millions of years.
Accompanied by a dedicated guide, visitors can enter the heart of the canyon and walk through the same places that, during the rest of the year, are crossed by the waters flowing down from Mount Cervati.
The route offers the opportunity to closely observe large polished boulders, cavities, rock engravings and geological formations that tell the story of the creation of the gorges. The riverbed, normally hidden beneath the waters, becomes a true geological trail where the history of the landscape can be discovered.
The silence, the light filtering through the woodland and the imposing canyon walls transform the visit into an immersive experience of nature, geology and biodiversity within the WWF Affiliated Oasis Gole del Cervati – Tenuta Castelluccio.
The experience takes place in Geosite No. 50 of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni UNESCO Global Geopark, within the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park.
