The Panoramic Cilento
Day 1 – Monte Stella
The itinerary begins with an ascent to Monte Stella, a biodiversity hotspot and a natural balcony overlooking the coast. Starting from the village of San Mauro Cilento, the trail winds through oak and chestnut woods, alternating flowering meadows with striking rocky outcrops. From the summit, uninterrupted views stretch across the Gulf of Salerno and the entire Cilento coastline. It is the perfect place to pause, relax, and enjoy the silence of the mountains.
💡 Hiking boots and layered clothing are recommended. Monte Stella is an isolated peak, so checking the weather forecast before setting out is essential, as conditions can change quickly. The Sanctuary of Madonna della Stella, located on the summit, is a fascinating historical and spiritual landmark.
📌 For more adventurous visitors, the Monte Stella Loop Trail offers a circular route with technical climbs and scenic descents, ideal for experienced mountain bikers or horseback riders with advanced riding skills.
Day 2 – Punta Licosa
From the harbour of Agropoli or San Marco di Castellabate, the sea leads to Punta Licosa, the heart of the Marine Protected Area. This stretch of coastline, steeped in legends of sirens and surrounded by crystal-clear waters, embodies the unspoilt beauty of the National Park. Walking along the shoreline reveals hidden coves where the sound of the sea is the only companion. At sunset, the sky glows with shades of orange and violet, while the iconic Licosa Island and its lighthouse stand out against the horizon, creating a truly magical atmosphere.
💡Punta Licosa can be reached not only by boat but also via an easy, flat walking trail starting from the harbour of San Marco. Comfortable clothing, sun protection, and plenty of water are recommended.
Day 3 – Capo Palinuro
The third day is dedicated to the dramatic scenery of Capo Palinuro. A coastal hike passes through pine forests and sandy paths, offering spectacular viewpoints over the deep blue sea. The Lighthouse and Towers Trail winds through Mediterranean scrubland to one of the most scenic lighthouses on the Tyrrhenian coast, providing breathtaking views of the towering sea cliffs.
The journey concludes at the Natural Arch (Arco Naturale), where the warm light of sunset transforms the rock formations and sandy shore into an almost dreamlike landscape—an unforgettable place to capture the timeless beauty of the Cilento.
